Paul Krugman is currently claiming that Republicans are wrong about the effect of unemployment insurance on the rate of employment, namely that extending unemployment compensation increases the unemployment rate.
This goes counter to both common sense and what Krugman himself (along with his wife, also an economist) wrote in his textbook, Macroeconomics:
